About Sydney Staff for BDS

Sydney Staff for BDS is a newly formed group of staff at the University of Sydney. We aim to:

(1) Exert pressure on the University of Sydney to withdraw all institutional and financial support from Israeli academic
and research institutions by implementing a boycott and divestment campaign similar to the one applied to South Africa in the apartheid era;
(2) Show solidarity with Palestinian university communities by responding to the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel;
(3) Support the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement more generally.

If you work at the University, join us.

We meet most Thursdays at 1-2pm in the gallery of, CPACS, Mackie Building – on Arundel St, Forest Lodge, just over the Parramatta Rd footbridge.

  1. We should boycott ourselves first before going after Israel. At least Jews have a historical connection with Israel over 3000 years, whereas we have invaded and occupied Aboriginal land and colonized Aboriginals with no excuse whatsoever.

  2. Historical connection? I may have a historical connection with X dating back 5000 years, but that doesn’t mean X is mine for the taking.

    Palestinians have an actual connection, with keys and title deeds to prove it, and a historical connection dating back to the Canaanites.

    And yes, Australia was invaded and colonized with no excuse whatever, but please spare us the line that your alleged historical connection is a valid excuse to dispossess Palestine’s indigenous people.

    Now where were we? BDS, I believe…

  3. Jews have been living in Israel for 3000 years. As a reflection of this fact, Israel was partitioned between Jews and Arabs by the United Nations. The Arabs got all the best land. They did not accept it, and while the Jews were building infrastructure, hospitals, schools etc, the Arabs invested in guns. As soon as Israel became a state in 1948, the Arabs declared war. They lost. Then they tried hijackings, then terrorism, then suicide bombings. Imagine if all the Arab oil money that went into financing weapons went into productive infrastructure building in Gaza and the West bank. White Australians should leave Australia if they are so quick to point the finger at Israel. Let he or she who is without sin cast the first stone. BTW, more than 60% of Israeli Arabs are satisfied with living in Israel, and most would prefer to live there than in a Palestinian state. Not rocket science to see why, when you look at the region.

  4. To focus on just the first sentence of your potted propaganda, Angel.

    Simply because a small number of religious Jews have lived in Palestine down the years, along with countless non-Jews, that gives you and yours the right to march right on in and claim that the place is exclusively yours?

    No need to respond. I think we already know your answer.
